The “Campaign for Kids” Capital-Development Campaign
Dear Friends, The “Campaign For Kids” is the largest fundraising project the Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County has undertaken in our 64-year history. This $4.5 million campaign started with preliminary planning in 2002. It began in earnest in 2006 after securing a new land lease from the City of Ferndale. The commitment accelerated when the Ferndale Club was destroyed by fire on January 1, 2007.
Since that time, we have accomplished several significant benchmarks including the Feasibility Study and Phase 1 of the Campaign (the silent campaign). We have also adjusted our goal to $5.0 M. I am confident that all goals will be achieved as we secure the future for Whatcom County kids. Thank you for your support. Lynn James Templeton, Executive Director / CEO Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County

Mid January update: The new Ferndale Club nears the 35% completion milestone. Most of the slabs are poured, flood walls are complete, gym walls are up, roof trusses are in place and block work has begun. Off site construction for runoff and fire protection is underway along Cherry Street. Plumbing and electrical rough-in are complete, and penetrations for technology pathways, conduit and pipe will be drilled soon. Design work continues for telephone, cabinets and trim, security cameras and electronic entry.

Phase 2-March 2008 to January 31, 2010
Phase II is the heart of the “Campaign for Kids” capital development campaign. We began by forming a Campaign Steering Committee, made up of important community members with a dedication to the project. We were thrilled when Rick Staeb of the Cascade Radio Group, and Kathey Chambers of Jerry Chambers Chevrolet Cadillac agreed to serve as our Honorary Chairs. During this time we will continue with our Major Gift appeals, our countywide fundraising strategies, and the Ferndale Community Plan, where we hope to get the entire community of Ferndale involved in building the new Clubhouse. So far we have raised $4,902,635 towards our new stretch goal of $5.0 million. YOU CAN HELP! A New Clubhouse for Ferndale! A new Clubhouse in Ferndale is the centerpiece of the Campaign for Kids , replacing the Club that burned on January 1st, 2007. The new site in Pioneer Park will be on the corner of Cherry and Second Streets, away from the former skaterink location. A groundbreaking ceremony took place September 23, 2008, and preparation of the site has begun. General Contractor Mark Pottle, architect Doug Landsem and civil engineer Greg Ebe have completed the planning and permitting process. The final building design is in hand, and construction drawings are complete. We still hope to stay on track for a June construction start and an 8-10 month building period (depending on weather).

Campaign News
Brian Pemberton of Northwest Explorations Helps Raise $46,000 For Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County’s Capital “Campaign for Kids.”
Northwest Explorations recently worked with the Boys & Girls Club of Whatcom County to raise funds for the new Boys & Girls Club in Ferndale. The event was a VIP “Cruise for Kids II” on Brian Pemberton’s “Northern Song” through Bellingham Bay and Chuckanut Bay. Cruise guests heard from guest speaker and former Whatcom County Youth of the Year Nick Perigo, who spoke of how the Boys & Girls Club positively affected his life.
The lovely evening was catered by Giuseppe’s.
The “Cruise for Kids II” benefited the “Campaign for Kids,” which is a $5 million capital – development campaign. The new Ferndale facility is currently under construction and is scheduled to open in June 2010. There are several naming dedications available as well as a variety of marketing and sponsorship opportunities. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Christine Destry at 360-738-3808.
